extremely tough and secure. if you want your laptop thoroughly protected, this is the case for you. i've checked through regular airport baggage, and it arrives safe and sound. Customs WILL look through it though. it does look kinda like a gun case. But all in all, a very good, protective case. I would toss this out a second story window without giving it a second thought.
